Its characterized by age related wear and tear of the intervertebral discs, vertebrae and associated structures, leading to functional changes in the cervical spine.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In Ayurveda cervical spondylosis\u00a0 is considered under vata vyadhi( where vata is responsible for the movement, nerve function circulation). Vata lodges in Asthi dhathu(bone tissue) and leading to the degeneration of bones and cartilage in the cervical region. Along with that due to toxins(ama)accumulation which causes stiffness, pain and restricted movements.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PATHOPHYSIOLOGY:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Degenerative changes in the cervical spine, intervertebral discs, vertebrae and facet joints: Gradual loss of hydration and elasticity in the discs leads to reduced shock absorption and disc height.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Development of bone spurs(osteophytes):Bone spurs develops as a compensatory response to increased stress on the vertebrae.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to disc herniation and\u00a0 ligament thickening nerve compression occurs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spinal nerve impingement seen in advanced cases either by narrowing of spinal canal(spinal stenosis) or foramina stenosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLINICAL SYMPTOMS<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cervical spondylosis can cause a wide range of clinical symptoms ,which often vary\u00a0 depending on the severity of the degenerative changes and specific nerves or spinal structure affected. The most common symptoms include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.Neck Pain and stiffness:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stiffness usually seen in morning or after a long period of inactivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain worsen with certain neck movements such as bending or extending the neck.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.Headaches:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually cervicogenic headaches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain radiates from the neck to the back of the head and temples.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.Radicular symptoms(Nerve Compression).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radiating Pain from neck to hands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Numbness and tingling in arms, hands or fingers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muscle weakness makes it difficult to grab objects or perform fine tasks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4.Myelopathy(Spinal cord compression)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spinal Cord Compression leads to,<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty with coordination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weakness in arms or legs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss of fine motor skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bowel or bladder dysfunction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5.Reduced range of motion:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limited ability to move the neck freely leading to stiffness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty turning the head or looking over the shoulder.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6.Grinding or popping sensations:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A feeling of grinding or popping in the neck with movement, AKA crepitus caused by changes in joints and discs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7.Dizziness or vertigo<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Occasional dizziness or a sensation of spinning, especially when moving the neck quickly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8.Fatigue and sleep disturbances:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronic neck pain can lead to poor sleep quality and fatigue over the time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9.Shoulder pain:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain that radiates from the neck into the shoulder blades of upper back, sometimes\u00a0 mimicking shoulder joint issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DIAGNOSIS OF CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u00a0 are the diagnostic techniques\u00a0 used in cervical spondylosis:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.MEDICAL HISTORY:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptom assessment: Which includes duration, intensity of neck pain, stiffness headaches and neurological symptoms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical and family history: Any history of injuries, previous spinal issues or family history of degenerative spine conditions is noted.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lifestyle factors: Information about occupation ,activities and ergonomics that may contribute to neck strain.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Neurological Examination: Assessment of reflexes, muscles strength and sensory function to determine if there is any nerve compression.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Range of motion testing: To assess The paste can be removed by washing it off once it dries. When using lepam, we typically employ RASNADI and GRAHADHOOMADI choornam. The rasnadi choornam is mixed with lemon juice and warmed and used as lepam.
