It\u2019s also known as Acute Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy(AIDP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is frequently brought on by infections that cause the immune system to target peripheral nerves. Peripheral nerves&#8217; myelin sheath is damaged by an abnormal immune response that causes demyelination, which is the cause of GBS. Although most GBS patients recover, the process can take weeks or years, and others may have long-term nerve damage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Ayurveda, Guillain-Barre syndrome is a nervous system disorder mostly caused by an imbalance in VATA DOSHA(which regulates the nerve system and the body&#8217;s movements) along with dhatu kshaya and ojo kshaya.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While classical Ayurvedic scriptures do not specifically mention GBS, symptoms such as paralysis, loss of sensation, and muscle weakness can be associated with illnesses such as Vata Vyadhi. Similarly symptoms like emaciation, discomforts associated with sense organs, weak immune system etc can be correlated to oja kshaya. Muscle weakness and fatigue ,is been in agreement with dhathu kshaya lakshanas.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLINICAL SYMPTOMS OF GUILLAIN BARRE SYNDROME:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.Weakness:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symmetrical muscle weakness: The most typical symptom, which begins in the legs and spreads to the arms, face, and upper body.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty in walking: Patients find it difficult while standing or walking due to muscle weakness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ascending paralysis: Usually the weakness begins from the lower limb and progressively traverses to the upper body.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.Reflex Changes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Areflexia or hyporeflexia: One typical and distinguishing sign is the loss or decrease of deep tendon reflexes, such as the knee jerk reflex.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.Pain:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nerve pain: Sharp, shooting pain that may get worse at night, especially in the legs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muscle pain: Typically in the shoulders, thighs, or lower back, aching or cramping pain will be seen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4.Sensory Disturbances:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss of sensation: Diminished sense of touch, pain, or temperature; usually begins in the extremities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tingling or numbness(paresthesia): Tingling, prickling\u00a0 sensations that frequently begin in the hands and feet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5.Autonomic Dysfunction:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty in regulating body temperature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abnormalities in heart rate(Arrhythmia or Tachycardia).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fluctuations in blood pressure(Low or high BP).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty with bowel movements and urination.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6.Respiratory issues:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breath shortness and failure in respiration: Severe paralysis can impair breathing muscles, including the diaphragm, necessitating mechanical ventilation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7.Weakness of cranial nerve and facial nerve:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes Bell&#8217;s palsy-like symptoms include difficulty in blinking, smiling, or closing one&#8217;s eyes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weakness in the muscles of the mouth, throat, or tongue that makes it difficult to swallow, chew, or talk.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8.Coordination Difficulty:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ataxia: Impaired balance and coordination brought on by weakness or sensory deficiencies, which causes unsteady gait.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quick onset of respiratory distress, dysphagia, or muscle weakness are medical emergencies that need to be attended to right away. Usually, the symptoms reach their climax in two to four weeks, then plateau and followed by\u00a0 recovery. Under certain circumstances, paralysis can occur quickly and completely in a matter of days.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DIAGNOSIS OF GBS<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to laboratory testing and diagnostic examinations, the diagnosis of GBS is mostly reliant on clinical symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.Analyzing Clinical Symptoms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The symptoms generally begin with weakness and tingling in the lower limb\u00a0 and traverse to the upper limb.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually symmetrical muscle weakness will be noticed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rapid progression of symptoms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Areflexia are cardinal symptoms to be noted.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.Neurological Examination:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muscle strength, sensory functions and reflexes should be studied to estimate the nerve involvement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.Nerve Conduction Studies(NCS):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nerve damage in GBS is confirmed by frequently delayed or stopped nerve conduction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4.Lumbar Puncture(Spinal Tap):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cerebrospinal fluid is examined via lumbar puncture.
