Antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), a protein that shields the myelin sheath of nerves, are indicative of it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In Ayurveda, it can <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be correlated<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> with disorders arising from an imbalance of vata dosha and pitta dosha, which affect the nervous system and the immune response(Ojas).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vata dosha: Governs the nervous system; its vitiation can cause nerve degeneration and loss of function.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pitta dosha: When aggravated, it can lead to inflammatory conditions in the body.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ojas depletion: Autoimmune disorders<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, often create a weakened<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> immune system, which Ayurveda attributes to a reduction in Ojas, the essence of vitality.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLINICAL SYMPTOMS OF MOGAD DISEASE:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The given below are chief clinical symptoms related to MOGAD. These symptoms are based on the affected areas whether it\u2019s brain, spinal cord, brainstem or cerebrum.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1. OPTIC NEURITIS:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">`Lost vision, or blurred vision either in one or both eyes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pain in the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">eyes,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> during the movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dyschromatopsia\/Color vision loss. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Red and green vision loss <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">normally<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> occur.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It can also cause vision loss in the initial phase <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">which<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> can be reversible<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> with treatment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2. TRANSVERSE MYELITIS:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Symmetrical or asymmetrical weakness or paralysis in the limbs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sensory symptoms like burning sensation, numbness, and tingling in the legs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pain either sharp or\u00a0blunt and tightness can be present all over the body\/torso.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Loss of bowel or bladder control \/incontinence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Few other symptoms like fever, respiratory problems, loss of appetite, anxiety, and depression can be found.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">3. BRAIN STEM AFFECTED SYMPTOMS:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vertigo, dizziness or unsteadiness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nystagmus(abnormal eye movements) or diplopia(double vision).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nausea and vomiting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Headache.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Behavioral changes like altered consciousness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Difficulty in speaking or swallowing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Loss of balance and coordination.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">4. PEDIATRIC SYMPTOMS:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If there is a cortical lesion it can lead to epileptic or seizure episodes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Developmental issues and behavioral changes in kids.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">5. ADEM(Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis):<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This is usually seen in children who are positive with MOGAD.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Multiple neurological deficits due to diffuse inflammation of the brain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Confusion, personality changes, irritability, tremors, involuntary twitching of muscles, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RED FLAGS IN MOGAD:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MRI shows fluffy, large, poorly defined lesions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presence of MOG antibodies in CSF(Cerebrospinal Fluid) or blood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motor deficits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Severe vision loss.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">MOGAD usually has similarities in clinical and radiological features with other Central Nervous System demyelinating autoimmune disorders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A few Differential Diagnosis are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Multiple Sclerosis(MS).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder(NMOSD).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis(ADEM).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Autoimmune Encephalitis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ischemic myelitis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Idiopathic optic neuritis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sarcoidosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vasculitis or Autoimmune CNS disorders.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Central Nervous System Lymphoma.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DIAGNOSIS OF MOGAD\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1. CLINICAL ASSESSMENT:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Analyze symptoms like acute optic neuritis, transverse myelitis, vertigo, diplopia, dyschromatopsia, brainstem and cerebellar syndromes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2. SEROLOGICAL TESTING:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">MOG-IgG antibody detection using cell-based ASSAY, the antibodies are more reliably detected in the blood.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">3. IMAGING TESTS:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">MRI shows :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brain: Lesions that are fluffy and ill-defined in the cortex, brainstem, or periventricular areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Spinal cord: Lesion noted in the central part of the spinal cord. Severe transverse myelitis in more than three vertebrae.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Optic nerves: Bilateral involvement is usually seen, and enhancement and swelling of optic nerves are also found.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">4. ANALYZATION OF CEREBROSPINAL FLUID:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Usual findings include,<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Increased WBC(White Blood Cell count)-pleocytosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Protein levels elevated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Oligoclonal bands are usually absent or transient unlike in multiple sclerosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">5.
