FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the first aid after head injury?

A firm pressure can be given to the wound with a sterile gauze if you don’t suspect any skull fracture. Check for the changes in breathing pattern. Check for the alertness. If the patient is not alert or not responding, start CPR.

You may be suffering from a headache that does not go away even after taking painkillers. You may not be able to remember the incident that caused the concussion.

Don’t try to move the person or disturb them unless its necessary {repositioning of the patient or trying to remove helmet etc}. Ask the patient to stay still even though they are capable of moving by there own. If the patient is not breathing, perform CPR.

Spinal injuries are often due to unpredictable events. So all we can do is to reduce the risk of occurrence by: Wearing a seat belt in a car. Not wearing proper protective measures while playing sports. Never diving in shallow water. Using helmets in two wheelers.
